Applies to:

Oracle Communications Diameter Signaling Router (DSR) - Version DSR 7.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

After DSR upgrade from 7.0.1 to 7.1.2 below alarm is observed on all C level blades:

Event_number: 31125 - HA Service Start Failure

Instance: DSROAM_Proc

NETWORK_ELEMENT: SOAM SERVER: SBRS-2 EVENT_NUMBER: 31225 SEVERITY: MAJOR PRODUCT: Platform PROCESS: cmha TYPE: HA INSTANCE: DSROAM_Proc NAME: HA Service Start Failure DESCR: The required high availability resource failed to start ERR_INFO:GN_WARNING/WRN Unregistered required subResources(0)^^ [11914:HaResource.cxx:371]

Cause

  • Upgrade is being done from DSR 7.0 to DSR 7.1.
This was not a fresh install on DSR 7.0.
  • Any system where DSR upgrade is done from DSR 7.0 to DSR 7.1 or higher, Event Number "31225 - HA Service Start Failure" will be generated for all C level blades.
  • This alarm has no impact because it gets generated with instance - DSROAM_Proc, which is optional for MP blades (C level).
  • It is not expected that DSROAM_Proc process runs on MP blades.
  • Any system that will be upgraded to 7.1 or higher through 7.0 will be having this issue as 7.0 is broken in between.
  • Since 7.0 was not raising the alarm it got unnoticed in 7.0 but the problem was there in 7.0 also
  • In DSR 7.1, Comcol has started raising alarm for such conditions.
  • In DSR 7.0 the upgrade loader file load.dsr.upgrade.7.0.5+BUG19111064 gets executed automatically (RPM 7.0.5) hence this alarm is not generated there.
  • But when upgrading from DSR 7.0 to DSR 7.1 or higher this loader file does not gets executed automatically.
  • This loader file gets executed when upgrading from RPM version 7.0.5
  • When upgrading from DSR 7.0.1 to DSR 7.1.2 the RPM version is 7.0.23 to 7.1.20 as seen in upgrade logs, which does not covers RPM version 7.0.5

From Upgrade logs:

o 1464101482::da01_dsr_app_enable.sh: Executing upgrade loaders...
o 1464101482::Upgrading Idb tables data from '7.0.23' to '7.1.20'...

Solution

Workaround to fix this issue is to execute the below loader file on Active NOAM:

/usr/TKLC/dsr/prod/maint/loaders/upgrade/load.dsr.upgrade.7.0.5+BUG19111064

This loader file will mark DSROAM_Proc process as optional for MP blades hence clear the alarm.

Bug# 23540150 - DSROAM_Proc configured as a required HA resource but not started on MPs". Is opened to fix this issue.
