Applies to:

Fujitsu M10 PCI Expansion Unit - Version All Versions and later
Fujitsu M10-4 - Version All Versions and later
Fujitsu M10-4S - Version All Versions and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

In some cases the XSCF does not identify the installed PCI Expansion Unit ( PCIBOX ) when the PPAR is powered on, resulting in the logical domain not booting.

Example: The XSCF does not identify the PCIBOX installed in PCI-slot#0 on the system which has 3 PCIBOXs in slot#0,#3 and #5.

XSCF> ioxadm list
PCIBOX Link
PCIBOX#2333 BB#00-PCI#03
PCIBOX#3555 BB#00-PCI#05
XSCF>

As the result of this, when the pciboxdio command is enabled on the logical domain configuration, the logical domain cannot be booted because of the factory-default configuration.

Another symptom:
When the direct I/O function (Example 1) for the missing PCIBOXs are enabled, and the logical domain configuration (Example 2) is set to something other than factory-default, the logical domain cannot boot because the configuration is changed to factory-default.

Example 1: Direct I/O function settings for the each PCIBOX can be confirmed as follows.

XSCF> showpciboxdio -a
PCI slot Direct I/O via PCIBOX
BB#00
0 enabled
1 disabled
2 disabled
3 disabled
4 disabled
5 disabled
6 disabled
7 disabled
8 disabled
9 disabled
10 disabled

Example 2: The logical domain configuration can be confirmed as follows. E.g. in the case that the logical domain configuration of PPAR ID 0 is the factory-default.

XSCF> showdomainconfig -p 0
PPAR-ID :0
Booting config
(Current) :factory-default
^^^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
(Next) :factory-default

Because XSCF can not identify the installed PCIBOX, ioxadm commands cannot be executed for the missing PCIBOX.

  • Turning on/off the LED.
  • Active replacement of the PSU and FAN.
  • Updating of the PCIBOX firmware.
  • Detection of the PCIBOX failure.

Cause

This problem is caused by XSCF firmware bug introduced in XCP2250.

When all the following conditions are met this problem may occur:

  1. Fujitsu M10-4 or M10-4S, and
  2. XCP version is 2250 or later, and
  3. The system has three or more M10 PCI Expansion Units

Solution

Workaround:
There is no effective workaround for this issue.
When this problem occurs perform a PPAR power-off /power-on

This problem will be fixed in the next XCP.  Please apply the fix once it has been released.
