Solution Type Problem Resolution Sure Solution 2142448.1 : Replacing a 73GB SSD with a 200GB SSD on an Oracle Database Appliance can give ValidationFail error when not on a supported version
In this Document
Applies to:Oracle Database Appliance - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]Information in this document applies to any platform. The 73GB drives are EOL'd, and will be replaced by either 200GB drives. SymptomsThe 73GB drives are EOL'd, and will be replaced by either one of the following 200GB drives: 7309938 HGST HUSMM1640ASS200 [HSCAC2DA6SUN200G] (200GB - 2.5" Solid State SAS Disk)
After replacing a 73GB SSD drive with a 200GB SSD drive, oakcli show disk is showing the disk as "ValidationFail" status. For example:
# oakcli show disk
NAME PATH TYPE STATE STATE_DETAILS pd_00 /dev/sdc HDD ONLINE Good # oakcli show validation storage failures Show soft validation failures -- Show hardware errors (ODA 2.8+) # oakcli show storage –errors VALIDATION ERROR: Disk pd_20 in slot 20 Model [HSCAC2DA6SUN200G] not supported by ODA
ChangesThe 73GB drives are EOL'd for ODA, and can no longer be ordered. Logistics/TSC should order a 200GB drive pn 7309938 or 7350582, to replace the 73GB drive. If the customer is not running an OS/OAK version that does not support the 200GB drives, they will see "ValidationFail" error. CauseDisk replacement on an OS version that is not supported. The system needs to be at 12.1.2.0.0 or above in order to be able to use the 200GB drives. SolutionUpgrade to supported version, 12.1.2.0.0 or above.
