Symptoms

The user is a member of 25 groups currently.

This was tested by creating 25 files on an NFS share with each file owned by a different group that the user is a member of.

Confirmed by the test that the user can read 16 of the files but has "permission denied" for the remaining 9 files.

Cause

LDAP is needed to control authentications when using more than 16 groups.

Solution

LDAP or Active Directory is needed for Solaris to avoid the 16 group limit.
