Sun Storage 2540 Array - Version Not Applicable to Not Applicable [Release N/A]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Volume group or volume expansion fails with following error message.

In Common Array Manager (CAM) GUI:

An export of a volume group cannot be performed because a volume in the group is being initialized.

In majorEventLog.txt:

A:Fri Mar 11 15:29:06 IST 2016 : 20231 : 1ce/15/0 : 5023 : Command : Controller Firmware : None : Controller return status/function call for requested operation - Insufficient cache space
---> RPC Function : 00000015 decimal: 21 - Initiate a volume group expansion (DCE) operation
---> Return Code : 000001ce decimal: 462 - Insufficient cache space

Cause

The volume expansion can experience this error because the existing volume has a segment size of 512 KB. The error occurs because the existing volume running out of available cache during the volume expansion.

Bug 15566266 : SUNBT6846506 25X0 VOLUME EXPANSION FAILS

Solution

There is no fix for this issue.

The workaround for this issue is to modify the segment size of the volume to provide sufficient cache during Dynamic volume expansion (DVE) or Dynamic capacity expansion (DCE).

Change segment size from 512k to 256k (or some other value) and then redo the volume/volume group expansion.

To know how to change segment size, please refer to <Document 1005170.1> Sun StorageTek 6000 and 2500 Series Arrays: How to Change the Segment Size for a Volume Using CAM.

NOTE: If you are expanding a volume group and experiences this error, then we need to change the segment size of all volumes in the volume group. If the error occurs while volume expansion then change the segment size of the original volume.
