Solution Type Problem Resolution Sure Solution 2135456.1 : Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance: SMB share comment set via MMC Plug-in is discarded after a share property is modified
In this Document
Created from <SR 3-12387090501> Applies to:Oracle ZFS Storage ZS3-2 - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]Oracle ZFS Storage ZS3-4 - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases] Sun ZFS Storage 7420 - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases] Sun ZFS Storage 7320 - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases] Sun Storage 7410 Unified Storage System - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases] 7000 Appliance OS (Fishworks) SymptomsA Windows machine MMC (Microsoft Management Console) provides functionality to manage SMB shares. Using MMC we can set comments on a SMB share. If any changes to any of the properties (not just SMB) are made, then the comments on MMC disappear.
CauseThe underlying implementation of 'libshare' is changed. The Appliance software uses an older API which doesn't support the 'description', and when an update is done - using the UI - the incore description is lost.
SolutionDescription or comment is defined as protocol independent (ie. not specific to NFS or SMB) or global property. This issue is being worked as ER internally.
