Symptoms

Tape drive does not reply on "mt stat" after a drive hardware failure.
Drive is not operational after FSC 376D

Cause

FSC Dictionary Description:

Field Text:
The read code timed out waiting for an interrupt to occur. The servo never indicated that it had acquired the correct track.
 
On this type of failure (FSC 376D) tape drives falls into a error recovery which the OS kernel times out on.
 

Solution

OS Kernel update to be able to adjust timer "eh_timeout" value larger than 10 seconds.

The BUG has been closed with the following:

Servo engineering team says that any attempted code fix for this would bring serious risk implications.
