Sun StorageTek SL3000 Modular Library System - Version All Versions and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Multiple sites have reported problems after re-configuring the library Partitions.

Partition configuration issue.

- After deleting partition_2 drives in partition_1 are no longer assigned to partition_1.

- Customer added a drive to partition 1 and the drive was given a duplicate element ID.

- After a drive was added to a partition, drives in partition_1 were no longer assigned to partition_1.

- Unexpected element id changes to existing drives after a partition reconfiguration.

- Partition changes are architected to be done dynamically except to the partition being updated, some of the drive and element id issues did not show up until after the library was rebooted.

Cause

Firmware issue with partitioning.

Solution

Issues were isolated to a flag set improperly in SLC, fixed in SLC_6.65. SLC_6.65 was tested against Library code at 4.40, limited compatibility testing was done against 4.32 and 4.02. SLC is generally downward compatible to all versions of library code but acceptance testing is only done two generations back.

In addition the library code at FRS_4.40 will post an event in the SLC Status Module tab.

-If the ActiveCell count is 0, either on initialization or when all partitions are deleted, a Status Alert will be posted in the Status Module. The library TLC<top level condition> will change to a warning state.

-If a duplicate drive element id is detected, an error alert will be set in the status module and an error event will be logged.

SLC_6.65 is scheduled to release 5/2016. RELEASED 6/6/16 on Edelivery.

FRS_4.40 is scheduled to release 5/2016. RELEASED 6/2/16 on SAC release notes attached.
