Applies to:

Sun StorageTek SL8500 Modular Library System - Version All Versions and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Unable to create log snapshot via CLI/SDP2.

Changes

Cause

Found that a pipe(hwmgr.fifo) was left behind in the /tmp directory that was causing the CLI command to hang just before it called the snapshot application.

Solution

SL8500 on firmware level 8.07

SL3000 on firmware level 4.00
Use user "eng" in order to perform Hwmgr.fifo file removal in /tmp directory.

SL8500 on firmware 8.36 and higher require user "root" for above action.
SL3000 on firmware 4.30and higher require user "root" for above action.

In any case, involve L2 for procedure and escalation to US Backline Support for the correct user (eng/root)

This issue has been addressed with firmware level FRS_8.50 and higher.
