Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

There have been a few issues found with specific T10000D (T10kD) firmware, supporting the HSM features of 'Distributed I/O' (new in the HSM 5.4 release) and 'Media Migration using Xcopy' (new feature in the 6.1 release).

Starting with the use of 4.10.106 T10kD drive firmware code, the following issues were reported, when using the two different Oracle HSM features.

When using Distributed I/O, the following error was seen in the /var/opt/SUNWsamfs/trace/sam-archiverd trace file:

[ID 702911 local7.error] err Fatal OS call error: ioctl:F_RMDISTIOINIT(eq: 202 ti.GT0018) called from: rmarchive.c:217: Inappropriate ioctl for device errors from arcopy.

When using Media Migration with Xcopy, the following error was seen in the /var/opt/SUNWsamfs/sammig/logfile:

2016-04-17 15:20:44 Summ: 'ti.AIB058' =============== Summary ===============
2016-04-17 15:20:44 Summ: 'ti.AIB058' Status: Error, media not migratable

As well as this reported by the 'samcmd x' display:

Cause

 Bugs found in the T10kD firmware and in Oracle HSM code.

Solution

- For Media Migration using Xcopy, with or without Distributed I/O configured, the latest firmware release 4.11.111 is needed, as well as a special OHSM 6.1 build.
  Please open a MOS Service Request (SR) against a T10kD drive to request the latest T10kD firmware code (currently 4.11.111 as of August 2016).  Also open an SR against the Oracle HSM product and request a special 6.1 release from Engineering.

- For Distributed I/O only, any T10kD tape firmware code can be used, other than the 4.10.106 release. This means that either the previous 4.09.xxx firmware release or the latest 4.11.111 release can be used.

Reference <Document 1680168.1> for information on assistance with installing firmware.

- HSM Engineering strongly recommends upgrading to the official 6.1-01 patch release (build id 6.1.35), if using Distributed I/O.  There have been many HSM code changes put into this release, for this feature.

Reference <Document 2240438.1> for assistance with acquiring the official 6.1-01 patch release.

If there are any questions regarding current release or firmware levels, please open a MOS Service Request (SR) and have Engineering consulted on the issue.
