Symptoms

You are using the documentation for 4.3 Configure and Verify SNMP for InfiniBand Switch Targets to setup the SNMP alerts for the IB switches:

Oracle® Enterprise Manager Exadata Management Getting Started Guide
Release 12.1.0.5.0

When testing the alert using the Test Button, no results or emails are generated.

There are curly braces around the ILOM Infiniband Alert Management address which is causing the problem.  From the SNMP server log:

Curly braces are around the from address. The SMTP server has no issue with this, but when it relays the message to the exchange server there is an error:

Jan 23 11:45:38 exa01db01 sendmail[28364]: 32kOl67IppJ456: to=<dbaAdmins@mycompany.com>, delay=00:00:05, xdelay=00:00:05, mailer=esmtp, pri=120309, relay=mailrelay.mycompany.com. [10.255.209.92], dsn=5.6.0, stat=Data format error
Jan 23 11:45:38 exa01db01 sendmail[28364]: 32kOl67IppJ456: s9NFkp2S028364: DSN: Data format error

This is failing on the from address. The only difference between ILOM Infiniband alerts and all the other ILOM alerts are the curly braces it puts around the from address.

Cause

Unpublished Bug 19930469 - Alert management adding braces {} to Custom Sender address has been verified by Hardware Development.

Solution

This issue will be fixed in ILOM Management Firmware version 2.2.1.  This firmware will be released in a future yet-to-be-determined Exadata Image.
