Problems in FRS-8.51 firmware were identified that can have serious impacts after installation. If you have already installed, or plan to install this code, you MUST contact backline support.
Do not install this code without instructions from support.

Symptoms

Problems in FRS-8.51 firmware were identified that can have serious impacts after installation.

After installing FRS-8.51 code in a multi-library complex the CAPs may fail to come online.
After installing the code in ANY configuration the SL8500 will boot OK. However, after a subsequent reboot, at any time, the partition file will be corrupted and the library will fail to come ready.

Changes

 Firmware update on SL8500 library.

Cause

Code upgrade issues have been identified going to 8.51, after a site has upgraded successfully to 8.51 we believe it will be stable code. The 8.51 code is mandatory for LTO_7 support, Bulk Cap support, 18 character DriveTray serial number support, and has other important enhancements. These issues only impact sites that have been updated from previous versions of code and does not impact library’s that have shipped with the native version of the code as done with new builds, and it does not impact sites that are partitioned. The issues stem from converting a partition configuration file from 6.x and below to 8.51 and the three generations of files associated with the conversion.

Solution

To eliminate the exposure we are going to modify the code upgrade procedures with the additional steps below. These steps will be added to the next generation of the 8.51 release notes noted as V5.

Note: If you have already upgraded to 8.51 contact Backline Support for further assistance.  There is an exposure to a dormant issue that could impact the library after the next reboot.

Amendment to 8.51 Upgrade Procedures

Upgrade to FRS_8.51.

After upgrade:
        Standalone library:
Using SLC go to the Select Active Cells screen.
Press the "Apply Default Capacity" button.
              Verify:
SLC -> Library -> General Properties will also show Active Cell count reflects the expected capacity of the library.
SLC -> Library -> General Status screen shows that the Access State is online.
If not, "Bring Online" via the "-select-transition" to bring the library online.

            Complex:
Login to CLI with the service id and password.
Execute the CLI command: partition setNonPartitionedHLI
Verify on all of the libraries in the complex:
SLC -> Library -> General Properties will also show Active Cell count reflects the expected capacity of the library.
SLC -> Library -> General Status screen shows that the Access State is online.
If not, "Bring Online" via the "-select-transition" to bring the library online.
