Symptoms

The customer was complaining of a slow import of a ZFS Fibre Channel LUN from the Appliance for an Oracle Database - that was quicker with an internal disk on the T5 server.

Changes

Cause

The blocksize used was 8k - which was the default blocksize used by the ZFS Storage Appliance when creating the LUN.

This leads to the system being unable to generate sufficient IOPs.

Solution

The LUN was re-created with a 128K blocksize and the import is now as fast as the internal T5 disk.

NOTE: Caution needs to be applied as you can still get misalignment of data when configuring the required blocksize.
