Solution Type Problem Resolution Sure Solution 2116900.1 : Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance: How to Increase Performance On an Exported Fibre Channel LUN
In this Document
Created from <SR 3-11550236671> Applies to:Sun ZFS Storage 7420 - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]Oracle ZFS Storage ZS3-4 - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases] Oracle ZFS Storage ZS4-4 - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases] Oracle ZFS Storage ZS3-2 - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases] Sun Storage 7410 Unified Storage System - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases] 7000 Appliance OS (Fishworks) SymptomsThe customer was complaining of a slow import of a ZFS Fibre Channel LUN from the Appliance for an Oracle Database - that was quicker with an internal disk on the T5 server.
Changes
CauseThe blocksize used was 8k - which was the default blocksize used by the ZFS Storage Appliance when creating the LUN.
This leads to the system being unable to generate sufficient IOPs.
SolutionThe LUN was re-created with a 128K blocksize and the import is now as fast as the internal T5 disk.
NOTE: Caution needs to be applied as you can still get misalignment of data when configuring the required blocksize.
