Symptoms

In some cases it is observed that after motherboard replacement, the system is unable to boot as it fails to recognize the boot disks.

We are able to see the disk from SP :

              -> show /SYS/DBP/HDD0/PRSNT/

But the disks are not visible in the BIOS.

Cause

One of the possible reasons includes the incorrect connectivity of Internal SAS cable to the Backplane.

This document shows the correct Internal SAS cable connection to the Backplane.

Because of the system physical design, it is possible that the SAS connector of the Internal SAS cable can be inserted into the Backplane port in an upside down position and it even gives the click/lock sound.

 See the below wrong connections :

Solution

This document shows the correct Internal SAS cable connection to the Backplane.

Check below for the correct Internal SAS cable connections to the DBP or Disk Backplane.

Align the Cable Connector latch side to the board connector with the Receiver holes as shown below:
Latch alignment

Gently slide the cable connector into the board connector until it stops.  An audible/tactile “click” will be observed.

To insure the connectors are fully seated and locked, a gentle 'pull' on the cable connector will confirm the seating.
