Sun StorageTek SL3000 Modular Library System - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Customer lost access to LTO-4 drives in "partition 1".

Changes

Deleting or re-configuring a partition on firmware level 4.3x.

Cause

Current code version 4.31

After deleting partition #  2
Name  ANY_NAME

Part_id 2

The partition # 1
Name ANY_NAME
Part_id 1

Changed the values for the drive sequence.

Origin  Jan-04 (before the partition 2 got deleted)    DRIVES,1,1,2|4,1,1|2 seq# 50 & DRIVE,1,1,4,1,3 seq# 51 assigned
Interim Feb-09 (after the partition two got deleted)  Drive DRIVE,1,1,4,1,3 seq.#1 assigned
Final    Feb-11 ((now working again (I believe))       DRIVE,1,1,4,1,3 seq# 50  & DRIVES,1,1,2|4,1,1|2 seq# 51 assigned

It appears that on feb-09 snapshot (interim) the drives 1,1,2|4,1,1|2 are missing and drive1,1,4,1,3 is assigned to MV.
It appears that on feb-09 snapshot (interim) the drives 1,1,2|4,1,1|2 are missing (not assigned, being in orphan state) and drive1,1,4,1,3 is assigned to MV.

Solution

Upgrade SL3000 firmware once firmware level 4.38 or higher is available in order to address the partition configuration change bug.
This bug can also be triggered by SLConsole.  SLC version should also be upgraded once new firmware is available to SLC version 6.65.

New firmware scheduled to be release is FRS_4.40 in late April, early May 2016.
