Symptoms

Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance head BUI shows the Infiniband port is connecting at 2GB/s.

The customer may also complain about performance on Infiniband connections being slow.

From the CLI view:

Head1:> configuration net devices
Head1:configuration net devices> show
Devices:
DEVICE UP SPEED MAC
ibp0 true 2000 Mbit/s not available        <<<<<<<< 2G
ibp1 true 2000 Mbit/s not available        <<<<<<<< 2G

Cause

We can check using the command line outputs from 'IBstat', that the actual speed is: 40G

Head1:configuration net devices> confirm shell IBstat

Port 1:
State: Active
Physical state: LinkUp
Rate: 40                <<<<<<<< 40G

Port 2:
State: Active
Physical state: LinkUp
Rate: 40                <<<<<<<< 40G

If the link speed is OK (40GB), then it is unlikely to be a hardware issue.

Solution

If the link speed is unknown or Rate:2  ... then replace the IB card.

If the link speed is correct, then please upgrade to Appliance Firmware Release 2013.1 Update 5.2 which contains the fix for this issue.
