Symptoms

The DE2-24x JBOD serial number on the front right-hand flange does not match with the serial number shown in the ZFSSA Browser User Interface or Command Line Interface.

Cause

The rack installation of the DE2-24x JBOD's may require the front right-hand flange to be removed for tightening the screw underneath them on the side rails.

This flange with serial number is sometime swapped with a consecutive or the other chassis during the initial installation.

Such situations may subsequently cause confusion while replacing hardware or identifying JBODs in the BUI or CLI.

Solution

To overcome the confusion, the BUI/CLI serial number and the physically available serial number has to be validated.

The following steps are given in order to validate the serial number.

Using BUI :

Click the locator LED on  Hardware > Maintenance > Disk Shelves > Name

Alternatively in CLI :

Enable the chassis activity indicator LED using:

zfs:maintenance chassis-xxx> set locate=true
                        locate = true (uncommitted)
zfs:maintenance chassis-xxx> commit
zfs:maintenance chassis-xxx> show
Properties:
                          name = xxxx
                       faulted = xxxx
                  manufacturer = Oracle
                         model = Oracle Storage DE2-24C
                          part = xxxx
                        serial = xxxxxx
........
                        locate = true   <<<<<

Once the LED is set to ON, physically validate the serial number and swap the flange only if it does NOT match the serial number shown in the BUI / CLI.
