Solution Type Problem Resolution Sure Solution 2109826.1 : FS System: FS1-2 Reports the Alert "Volume has lost data"
In this Document
Applies to:Oracle FS1-2 Flash Storage System - Version All Versions and laterInformation in this document applies to any platform. SymptomsThis document provides the steps to turn one or more LUNs online when an event for "Volume has lost data" occurs in Oracle FS1-2 Flash Storage System. The event can be seen in the FS System Manager GUI under System > Alerts and Events > System Alerts.
Changes
CauseThe primary reason for this event is the occurrence of multiple hardware failures, multiple software failures, or an unexpected power outage. Most often this issue arises due to the failure of flash-backed memory of the Controller to commit in-flight data due to multiple controller issues or loss of power on both controllers.
SolutionWhen the Lost Data flag is set on one or more volumes, the FS System cannot guarantee the integrity of data nor loss of data. The system places the affected volumes in offline status and generates the system alert for each volume. Each volume that is affected remains offline until the Lost Data flag is cleared. The purpose of the alert is to have the administrator to acknowledge the fact that the volume(s) might have some data corruption and should be checked after bringing the LUNs online. To recover the LUNs from this issue the flag must be cleared.
Method Using FS System Manager GUIThe procedure to turn the affected LUNs online is given below:
This should bring the LUN(s) online. NOTE: You won't be able to clear the Volumes Lost Data flag if there is a SlatIntegrityChecker task running in the background. You must wait for that task to clear (it cannot be canceled) first. Method Using fscliAlternately, this action can be performed using fscli utility. The fscli utility is needed to execute the required commands to clear the flag. Refer to <Document 1991938.1> FS System: How to Obtain and Install the fscli Tool Software.
The procedure to clear lost data flag using fscli utility is given below: 1. Login to the Oracle FS System with the fscli command: # fscli login -u <username> <fs-system IP>
2. Clear the Lost Data flag for all LUNs: # fscli system -clearLostData
