Applies to:

Sun Blade 6000 System - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Blade Service Processor had failed and was replaced.

This then resulted in Unrecognized Chassis: This module is installed in an unknown or unsupported chassis. You must upgrade the firmware to a newer version that supports this chassis.

This is a normal message and means that the firmware must be updated.

To do this the network needed to be configured so from an ILOM CLI session on the CMM using drill down this was attempted:

 -> ls

/CH/BL6/SP/network
   Targets:

   Properties:
       type = Network Configuration
       commitpending = (Cannot show property)
       ipaddress = (none)
       ipdiscovery = (none)
       ipgateway = (none)
       ipnetmask = (none)
       macaddress = (none)
       pendingipaddress = 10.10.10.10
       pendingipdiscovery = static
       pendingipgateway = 10.10.10.254
       pendingipnetmask = 255.255.255.0

   Commands:
       cd
       set
       show

-> set commitpending=true
Set 'commitpending' to 'true'

 However even after reset of the Blade's Service Processor the new network settings would not take effect

Changes

 Service Processor replacement

Cause

 Configuring of the Blade's Service Processor network settings in this circumstance can only be performed while directly logged onto the Blade's Service Processor via the serial management port using the UCP dongle.

Solution

 Log onto the Blade's Service Processor via the serial management port using the UCP dongle you see the full expected network settings and can configure the network

 ie.

/SP/network
  Properties:
      commitpending = (Cannot show property)
      dhcp_clientid = none
      dhcp_server_ip = none
      ipaddress = none
      ipdiscovery = none

      ipnetmask = none
      macaddress = 00:10:E0:58:13:A7
      managementport = MGMT
      outofbandmacaddress = 00:10:E0:58:13:A7
      pendingipaddress = 10.10.10.10
      pendingipdiscovery = static

      pendingipnetmask = 255.255.255.0
      pendingmanagementport = MGMT
      sidebandmacaddress = 00:10:E0:58:13:A6
      state = enabled
