Sun StorageTek SL3000 Modular Library System - Version All Versions and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

SL3000 previous firmware level is FRS_2.00

Silks development has upgraded the security of the private keys and license file generation process. This does require new license files to be obtained. Please see significant notes.

The Base Drive WWN was 1 more than it should have been (in FRS_2.00) leaving 17 for the library, rather than the allocated 16.
Note: Drive WWNs will change (reduce by 1) once this code is activated.

This will require a reconfiguration. Please see significant notes.

Symptoms

SL3000 down due to defective HBCR card on FRS_2.0.

Cause

It appears that due to the fact that the former HBCR card was on very old firmware (FRS_2.0) and upgrading code to FRS_4.3 while replacing the defective HBCR card, the license scheme did change and grandfathering did not take place.
This resulted in a corrupted license situation.

See following KB DOC for details
FAB: Standard: Reactive: Sun StorageTek SL3000 requires new license key for FRS_2.05 when upgrading from FRS_2.00 (or earlier). [1019545.1]

Deleting all duplicate license files as well as the legacy SILKS license file allowed us to start from scratch once again.

The same appears to be true for the partitioning, since we had the status that all assigned cells where not active even though it displayed to be assigned to the partition, which resulted in all cartridges being in Orphan status.
Deleting and adding the partition did solve this issue.

Solution

1. Replace defective HBCR card.
2. Upgrade Firmware.
3. Delete remaining license key files (legacy SILKS SUN key files).
4. Add current license key files.
5. Confirm orphan cartridge status.
6. Redefine partition configuration.
