Symptoms

When running the update.sh on an Exalytics OVM server to upgrade the guest from PS4 to PS5 and to Oracle VM Guest to 2.0.1.4, an error is encountered:

Transaction Check Error:
file /etc/odbcinst.ini from install of unixODBC-libs-2.2.11-10.el5.x86_64 conflicts with file from package unixODBC-2.2.11-7.1.i386

Reference, step 6 under "To upgrade Oracle VM Guest to 2.0.1.4" in the Oracle Exalytics Installation Guide.

Cause

Incompatible bit level in ODBC drivers. Conflict from having a 32 bit version of the unix ODBC packages installed on the system when 64 bit is expected.

Solution

Use "rpm -e" command to remove the conflicting package:

For example:

# rpm -e unixODBC-2.2.11-7.1.i386 unixODBC-devel-2.2.11-7.1.i386

Then relaunch the upgrade.sh script.
