Applies to:

Sun ZFS Storage 7420 - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]
7000 Appliance OS (Fishworks)

Symptoms

In the BUI of a 7420, under "Maintenance > HARDWARE", the Memory is reported as being 0B.

In the CLI, under 'maintenance hardware select chassis-000 select memory show`, DIMM Slots 2 & 6 of every Processor/Memory Riser are reported as "unknown" instead of the expected "absent".

Cause

This is observed on a 7420 when configured with the minimum memory, 128GB of RAM (8GB DIMMs in slots D0 & D4).

Bug 18610132 - Hardware Summary page of BUI shows memory as 0B

Solution

This is a cosmetic issue and does not effect the performance or use of the appliance.

Oracle Support has determined that this will not be fixed.

This is caused by a DIMM mapping issue that if fixed for this system will break other systems.

The only solution are to ignore the issue or upgrade the memory capacity of the system.

The 7420 controller supports the following configurations which do not present this issue:

  • Four or eight 8GB DDR3 DIMMs installed on each riser, accommodating 256GB or 512GB of memory for 2.0Ghz and 2.4Ghz CPUs.
  • Four or eight 16GB DDR3 DIMMs installed on each riser, accommodating 512GB or 1TB of memory for 2.4Ghz CPUs.
