Brocade SAN Switch Hardware - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]
Sun StorageTek SL3000 Modular Library System - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Storagetek SL3000 will not connect to a Brocade FC16-32, FC16-48, FC16-64, FC8-32E, FC8-48E, Brocade 6510, Brocade 6505, Brocade 6520, or Brocade 7840 Fibre Channel Switch

Changes

Brocade dropped FL support in the 6510 and other switches.

Cause

 FL_Ports are not supported on Brocade FC16-32, FC16-48, FC16-64, FC8-32E, FC8-48E, Brocade 6510, Brocade 6505, Brocade 6520, or Brocade 7840 platforms.

Solution

You need you to set soft addressing on the SL3000.  Hard addressing will not work.

Use the fibreconfig print command and make sure that hard addressing is disabled:

fibreConfig print

Use the following command to set either hard or soft addressing on the SL3000:

fibreConfig config <hard|soft> <loopID> <portNum>

So if hard addressing is enabled use:

fibreconfig config soft <portNum>

If problems persist, try changing the Brocade switch port to a G_Port using the following command:

portcfggport [slot/]port,mode

slot = For bladed systems only, specify the slot number of the port to be configured,
followed by a slash (/).

port = Specify the port to be configured, relative to its slot for bladed systems. Use
switchShow to display a list of valid ports.

mode = Specify a value of 1 to designate the port as a G_Port (or specify a value of 0 to
remove the G_Port designation from the port). A value of 0 is the default port state.
Mode must be preceded by a comma. This operand is required.
