Symptoms

Upon boot up, certain Acme Packet 3820 and 4500 systems running a Linux release (SCz7.x or ECz7.x) might display the following error messages:

CmdWrite: Unable to add rule from user-space
Error setting up low-level management interfaces: Generic system error

Cause

Root cause of the failures is that the onboard MAC of the COM-Express module is using a new OID which is not recognized by our software, so the interface is ignored.

The problem only manifests itself on certain Acme Packet 3820 and 4500 systems manufactured between July 2015 and January 2016.

The problem only manifests itself when booting a Linux release (SCz7.x or ECz7.x).

Solution

This problem can be corrected by applying Patch 22583427: Oracle Communications 3820/4500 Macfix.tar
