Symptoms

In Exalytics T5-8 Server running on Oracle Solaris 11.1.11.4.0, installed time-slider packages to enable auto snapshot for the ZFS filesystem.
Time-slider service starts successfully in global zone but does not come online in non-global zone.

Cause

The dbus service appears disabled. This server needs to be online for time-slider service:

Attempt to enable dbus manually was not successful:

This issue is described in a Solaris bug in operating system version 11.1.11.4.0 <BUG 15807935> - Cannot run gdm in non-global zone.

Solution

The known bug is fixed in Solaris 11.2 SRU5.5. When this update is installed, the time slider services are online in non global zones.

At this time, Solaris 11.2. SRU5.5 is not certified for Exalytics. It will be certified in the near future and when announced, the fix for this issue will be included.
