Symptoms

Server refuses to power on and the SP event log shows several "Chassis cover removed." events but the server's chassis cover had not been touched.

Changes

There were no chances and also no maintenance work taking place.
The server suddenly powered itself off.

Cause

The SP noted that the chassis cover was removed and therefore powered off the server.

This could be caused by either:

- The top cover of the chassis does not sit correctly
- There is a problem with the intrusion|interlock switch or its counterpart, the magnet
- An issue with the cable connection between intrusion|interlock switch and Power Distribution Board.

Solution

This could be caused by either:

- The top cover of the chassis does not sit correctly
- There is a problem with the intrusion|interlock switch or its counterpart, the magnet
- An issue with the cable connection between intrusion|interlock switch and Power Distribution Board.

Note: If you need to replace the cable between the intrusion switch and the PDB: This cable (Intrusion|Interlock Switch Cable) comes with the "Connector Board Assembly (CONNBD)"

Before trying to power on, please first clear the fault status using "clearasrdb" (ALOM) or "set /SYS/MB clear_fault_action=true" (ILOM).

If the three above steps did not help to find the root cause, please open a Service Request with Oracle Support.
