StorageTek SL150 Modular Tape Library - Version All Versions and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

The backup applications ( Netvault and Backup Exec ) run on a Windows host.
The drives are in an SL150 library derect-attached to the Windows host ( i.e., no ACSLS or LibStation library manager )
BackupExec2015 and NetVault 10.05

Symptoms

Web BUI showing all devices green without errors, from health log we see multiple library degraded messages.

Backup app sees library and drives and mounts a tape in a drive; immediately drive goes offline.
This happens for every mount on every drive.

From BackupExec:
Job started     : Monday, November 30, 2015 10:36:30 AMJob ended       : Monday, November 30, 2015 10:37:55 AMFinal error: 0xe000e005 - The job has reported multiple errors. See the job log for details.
Final error category: Backup Device ErrorsCompleted status: Failed

Cause

The UCS is not configured properly. It's not a straight forward connect to FC via a FC HBA.

Solution

The N20-AC0002 is not a true HBA in a sense as we speak of them. That card attaches to the IOM then to the FI and has to be configured as a FC connection thru that path. Depending on how they set that path up it will determine if you need another FC switch in the config.
My suggestion would be to have them get assistance from Cisco on configuring their USC for FC to talk with the SL150 and drives.
UCS is not an easy box to configure, there is a lot of virtualization involved.

Note:

The customer engaged Cisco support to look at the configuration of the Cisco UCS server and its Cisco "pseudo" hba.  At present, they connected an older non-Cisco server (an HP)  with HP hba's installed, and that does connect to the library, and backups are working.  That is a workaround, but it does work, until they see what Cisco support can help them with.
