Symptoms

Customer reports an outage due to SCC error

Cause

I2C bus noise has caused the SCC card to not be recognized causing a server shutdown. several messages from disks and sensors can be seen on the messages.

The server will shutdown in 60 seconds after  the SCC card is removed. If the customer didn't remove it himself and the messages show up this indicates a possible noise issue on the bus causing the card not to be recognized as present and causing the shutdown.

Solution

The noise on the bus can be caused by several reasons, the first suspect are the cables on the system so the cable kit needs to be replaced and all the other cables reseated.

If the cables replacement/reseating doesn't fix the issue then it would mean that either the MB sensors are bad or the SAS controller is bad or the SCC card reader is bad or there's an issue on the Bus, for which a MB would need to be replaced or the SCC card reader
