Symptoms

Memory module SEEPROM data is no longer populated with an Oracle Part Number, instead a generic string is written to the Serial Presence Detect (SPD) data on the DIMM which can be misinterpreted to be a FRU PN.

fru_part_number contains two fields - the first field (07075400 using the above example) has traditionally been used for the Oracle Part Number, however with DDR4 DIMMs this is no longer the case and 07075400 is NOT a valid Part Number and should not be used for determining the model of DIMM installed.

Cause

Memory Module SPD data is no longer programmed with an Oracle part number.

Solution

T7-x servers only have one part number for each size DIMM at this time. The T7-x 16 GB DIMM is Oracle part number: 7082850 & the 32 GB DIMM is 7082851.

Use Snapper, Explosum, or /cores_data/local/bin/whatdimm on any cores3 system to perform a lookup against the DIMM manufacturer part number to verify the correct Oracle Part Number. If these tools are not available, then refer to Doc 1411086.1 for the currently supported DIMMs on all CMT systems which includes the mapping between manufacturer part number for Oracle FRU part number.
