Hyperion Financial Management 11.1.2.4.100 is hanging on an Exalytics T5-8, Solaris 11 server. The hang occurs when running multiple consolidations even if the consolidations are not started at the same time. The application will begin to spin and CPU utilization on the server will show 1-6% utilization, but the wait time climbs into the 100’s or 1000’s.

Cause

This is due to a new product defect in HFM 11.1.2.4.  The problem was reported in unpublished <Bug 21847234> - XFMDATASOURCE HANGS RUNNING CONSOLIDATIONS. HFM development determined that the hang occurred when multiple overlapping consolidations were running at the same time. Even though the jobs were not started at the same time, they overlapped and in this situation performance is greatly slowed down. In this case, HFM will be extremely slow since every consolidation will block the other on entity-by-entity level. On top of that, each consolidation will overwrite the data generated by other consolidation, hence invalidating the other consolidation.
 

Solution

You may resolve this problem by applying the most recent HFM patch. 

<Patch 25689868> Patch Set Update: 11.1.2.4.205 for Oracle Hyperion Financial Management

Patch 11.1.2.4.205 included multiple consolidation bug fixes including a new option that limits the number of concurrent consolidations. Be sure to thoroughly review the patch readme including the "New Option to Limit Number of Concurrent Consolidations Per User Action."

NOTE: Oracle Support recommends installing and testing this patch on a test or development server before moving to your production servers.
