StorageTek SL150 Modular Tape Library - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

SL150 tape library unit will not initialize. Unable to access via Web Management because no Library is detected.

Fault indicator is active on the Library Module and Fault code 9113 (Robot Firmware Error) is present in the Health log display on the SL150 display.

No options are available on the unit other than the ability to run through the displays with most values being zeroes. Nothing is being recognized on this unit and we're unable to do anything with it except turn it on and off.

Firmware shown on display is 2.50 and there is no option to update firmware.

Also, when running a power down with the option to park the Robot, this operation will also fail. We can pretty much only power on and off the unit.

Physical configuration of the library - Master module with one expansion module attached rack mounted.

Attempted resetting to factory default but did not work; location lights will just remain constant.

Front fault indicator lit with fault on the Op Panel.  Library Module fault indicator lit (on back of unit).

Robot does not move, sits in place.  Trying to park robotics prior to shutdown will also generate 'Operation Failed'.

Cause

Error Code 9113.

Possible Causes :

-- Robot assembly could be faulty, needs to replace

LIBMD_ROBOT_FIRMWARE_ERROR_FAULT_CODE 9113 //_supported_
faultCode=9113
faultString="ROBOT_FIRMWARE_ERROR"
helpString="Check availability of firmware upgrade"
cru1="Robot"
cru1Priority=1

Solution

Action Plan :

- Power DOWN the SL150 tape library

- Remove the robot from the library

- Verify whether the robot lock has been disengaged

- Inspect the robotic path for any obstructions

- Check if there has been any physical damage to the robot
- Re-seat the robot assembly appropriately.

- Power up the library & observe closely to check whether the robot is initializing correctly.

- If the issue still persists, replace the part (Robot assembly)

In this case after the robot replacement, the robot started initializing and the library comes up online and ready.
