Symptoms
On servers that use ILOM Firmware on their Service Processors, the following Warning can be observed: /coredump is almost full
a. On the ILOM command line interface, the mentioned Warning can be seen after executing the command:
-> show -script /X/logs/event/list
1816 Mon Mar 30 20:39:33 2015 Fault Warning minor Warning: /coredump is almost full
b. On the Host Operating System, the corresponding Warning message can be seen after executing the command
# grep '/coredump' /var/adm/messages
<timestamp> <hostname> SC Alert: [ID 876082 daemon.notice] Fault | minor: Warning: /coredump is almost full
Cause
The directory "/coredump" is used on the Service Processor's internal file system to store coredumps that are generated by processes
that run on the Service Processor's own Operating System. As soon as there is less than 1/8 of free space available in the "/coredump"
directory, the described Warning will be generated.
Solution
Usually, the ILOM Firmware deletes old coredumps automatically, as soon as there is less than 1/8 of available space in "/coredump".
The Warning can be ignored as long as it is not shown regularly during a short period of time.
If for some reason, ILOM won't delete these files automatically, you will notice the warning on a regular basis.
In such case please reset the Service Processor:
-> reset /SP
If the Warning keeps appearing frequently even after the reset of the Service Processor, please generate an ILOM Snapshot and
open a Service Request in the My Oracle Support Portal for further analysis. A Support Engineer will then delete these files manually.
The Support Engineer shall delete old coredump files manually by logging to the affected SP in escalation mode in case
that a WebEx session is possible. Otherwise, to ensure positive customer satisfaction, consider sending a Field Engineer
The ILOM3 CLI/Web Procedures Guide shows on pages 54-57 (PDF pages 64-67) how to generate the ILOM snapshot.
