Symptoms

NDMP daemon reporting 'Failed to open tape device (I/O error)'

Changes

BUG 20354003 the error message was added for debugging purposes.

Cause

Some Data Management Applications are routinely probing tape devices for status.

This harmless error message can be seen regularly on locally attached tape drives to the Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance.

Solution

This is a harmless error message and will be removed on later release firmware code.
