We received a complaint about DOA Bel cards in the field.

Symptoms

Trays with the Bel cards connected would not pass the drive tray tester.

We received a complaint about DOA Bel cards in the field.

Changes

Cause

Engineering found that the Bel cards are not imaged correctly / completely. The bel.hdr and bel.bin files are missing. There is a bootstrap image of 4.17 present, which is enough for the bel to wake up and respond to ethernet commands, but when trying to change mode to either LDI or ADI mode, they get an echo from the Bel which says 'no image'.  When FTPing to the Bel card, one can clearly see that the Bel's directory is minus these 2 files.

Solution

The problem in the field is recoverable by re-blowing the 4.17 image via VOP and then selecting the mode.

Note: Reload the code with VOP in either ADI or LDI mode (whichever the library is configured for).  If you can not get to the Bel card with VOP then there is nothing that can be done and the Bel card will need to be replaced.

Note: Any trays shipped with bypassed Bels now has to be suspect
