Symptoms

When attempting to login to a switch GUI with a valid user and no password or bad password, the following error message is written to the /var/log/messages file:

lumain: (ht_session_create): authentication error, invalid credentials

Cause

Every attempt of login to a switch GUI with a valid user and no password or bad password will cause that message to be generated.

This can be verified by checking event list

root : Open Session : object = /session/type : value = www : error

The timestamp matches the message, the user was root, the session type was www.

Solution

Make sure that correct credentials are used during login.
