Symptoms

On a Linux-based Exadata X3-2 system, the ipmitool is failing for the oemuser on multiple nodes. It works fine on the nodes of another system.

When you try:

ipmitool -I lan -H -U oemuser -P <oemuser's password> -L USER sel list last 10

The system replies:
Error: Unable to establish LAN session
Get SEL Info command failed

Cause

The ILOM snapshot for the system shows that ipmi is disabled.
 
/SP/services/ipmi
  Properties:
  servicestate = disabled
 

Solution

Set the servicestate to enabled.
