Symptoms

Users are reporting Service Processor performance degradation and periodic ILOM hangs after installing Oracle Hardware Management Pack (HMP) version 2.3.2 on systems configured with Oracle VM I/O domains.

The hangs appear to occur much quicker on more recent firmwares, such as ILOM 3.2.5.3.b which is used in T4-x system firmware 8.7.2.b & in T5-x system firmware 9.4.2.e.

Affected releases;

Solaris 10 with Oracle HMP patch 20957445 installed
Solaris 11, 11.1 with Oracle HMP patch 20957457 installed
Solaris 11.2 SRU 8.5

Oracle HMP is installed by default with Solaris 11.2 with release 2.3.2 integrated into SRU8.5 and later.

To confirm the version currently installed please use the following steps;

Solaris 10

Cause

Root cause has been identified in usage of Oracle Hardware Management Pack 2.3.2.x (or earlier) which results in the Hardware Management Agent (hwagentd) issuing multiple device ADD requests to the Service Processor.  This was not apparent until OHMP was installed by default with Solaris 11.2 SRU 8.5.

Solution

The final fix is integrated into Oracle HMP 2.3.3

Patch 21969585: Oracle HMP 2.3.3 for Oracle Solaris 10 (SPARC)
Patch 21969599: Oracle HMP 2.3.3 for Oracle Solaris 11
Solaris 11.2 SRU 14.5

The software can also be downloaded from My Oracle Support as a Patch.
See also "Download Firmware and Software Using My Oracle Support" in the Hardware Management Pack Installation Guide.

A workaround is also available to disable the Hardware Management Agent on the primary and alternate Oracle VM guest domains;

Solaris 10:
svcadm disable svc:/system/sp/management:default
svcs -l svc:/system/sp/management:default
Solaris 11:
svcadm disable svc:/application/management/hwmgmtd:default
svcs -l svc:/application/management/hwmgmtd:default
