Sun StorageTek SL8500 Modular Library System - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Error message - @SLS0662I LMU RESPONSE ERROR - 01,000,10,80

Can ping the library port 2B and port 2A, but cannot do a vary on ACS 01.

Changes

Customer upgraded SL8500 firmware from 3.98b to 7.01.

IP configuration and licenses were lost after firmware upgrade.

Cause

After reconfigure library network interfaces 2B and 2A. HSC still not able to vary on ACS.

Further investigation, found the customer HSC 6.2 was never patched since initial install 7 years ago.

Solution

Fix was simple but time consuming.... in this case customer had to download and apply 950+ PTFs.

  * Restore and verify IP addresses, netmask and gateway was correct to customer's environment. Verify PING and TRACEROUTE to and from library were successful.

  * Verify ALL recommended patches were applied to HSC and/or ACSLS per library firmware release notes (this MUST be done before library firmware upgrade).  See example below:

HSC version:
HSC/ELS PTFs are required to go along with this code update if the new partitioning feature will be implemented: They are for 6.2 - L1H16EM(VM), L1H16EN(MVS), 7.0 - L1H16EO, and 7.1 - L1H16EP.
Please see the HSC Version section of the Appendix for more information.

To add more port connections to an ACSLS system, customers have these options:
- Customers can use acsss_config. Stop ACSLS. Run acsss_config, specifying the existing ACSs and port connections (with the ACSs in the same sequence) and add the new port connections. Start ACSLS.
- Run the config ports utility while ACSLS is up, specifying the existing ports in the same sequence and adding new ports at the end. (Note: You cannot change or delete port connections with config ports.)
