Symptoms

Important - J406/J407 Cable Locks Missing.

Approximately 35 expansion frame ribbon cable jumpers were acquired without the cable connector locks and some were shipped in expansion kits.  The error was found and new cables will have the locks.

Cause

Manufacturing issue.

Solution

These cables must be locked together to ensure reliable long-term service. They are subject to vibration and occasional contact with an FSE or operator and the connectors could become unseated.  These cables can cause many odd, hard-to-discover faults.  One of the more common faults is the loss of either the odd or even PTPs, as those signals are on the outside edges of the connectors.

Resolution - Obtain some thin cable ties and make sure these connectors are locked together.  Standard tie wraps are a little large and to not seat well in the notches on the connector.  Any recently installed subsystems that were missing the locks must have the cables locked together.

The images below show the missing locks and the installation of the ties to resolve the problem.
