Symptoms

On 07.77.xx firmware, Controller-B host port link status may report incorrectly in Common Array Manager GUI and CLI.

NOTE : This issue is only applicable to 07.77.xx firmware.

If originally the port link is UP, the GUI and CLI may show it as DOWN and vice versa. There is no impact on host access.

Eg : In this scenario the Controll-B host channels are actually UP and optimal without any host access issues. But the GUI and CLI shows this port as DOWN. From storageArrayProfile.txt in supportdata, you can find the below details.

Tray.85.Controller.B
Status: Optimal

Host interface: Fibre
Port ID: ffffff
Channel: 1
NL-Port ID: 255
Maximum data rate: 8 Gbit/s
Current data rate: 8 Gbit/s
Data rate control: Auto
Link status: Down <------------------
Topology: Unknown

Host interface: Fibre
Port ID: ffffff
Channel: 2
NL-Port ID: 255
Maximum data rate: 8 Gbit/s
Current data rate: 8 Gbit/s
Data rate control: Auto
Link status: Down <--------------------
Topology: Unknown

Cause

This is a reporting issue due to a known bug in 07.77.xx firmware.
This bug causes Controlelr-A to hold incorrect status for Controller-B ports.

Refer to <Bug 15766596> controller's host port link status did not change even after unplugging FC cable

The status can be verified from stateCaptureData.dmp. In this example the Controller-B host channel ports are up and optimal. But CAM reports wrong link status.

Solution

The work around to fix this issue is to reset controllers one by one or power cycle the array.

Upgrade to firmware 07.80.51.10 or later to resolve the issue permanently.
