Created from <SR 3-10956738631> Applies to:Sun Fire V890 Server - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]Information in this document applies to any platform. SymptomsCustomer reports SUN V890 SAN HBA failure. We can observe the following emlex information in /var/adm/messages Jun 18 07:23:22 eshtsm04 emlxs: [ID 349649 kern.info] [ 6.0CB8]emlxs1: ERROR: 420: Adapter hardware error. (Host Error Attention: status=0x20000000 status1=0x1ce0 status2=0x0) CauseThe adapter hardware error is a firmware trap. The firmware has shut down due to resource allocation issues causing the adapter to be unable to continue. The adapter is shutdown to insure integrity of data. During heavy I/O, it is possible for the IOCB buffer pool to be exhausted. If there are a large number of outstanding exchanges, an I/O may complete and the firmware has no buffer space to place the command response which causes the firmware to trap. SolutionDownload and install latest firmware. Resource handling in the firmware has been improved. As this issue seems to occur very rarely , a simple reboot is also a good approach. see also Emulex Drivers for Solaris Manual: MSG_ID: 0231 WARNING: Adapter shutdown.
