StorageTek T10000D Tape Drive - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]
Sun StorageTek T10000 Tape Drive - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Cannot communicate with the tape drive on the Ethernet port.

Cause

LOD card is in diagnostic mode. Another possible reason for this symptom is that the SSH FIPS Mode is enabled.

Solution

LOD Diagnostic Mode

The LOD card has a diagnostic mode that locks out the Ethernet port. To see if the drive is in this mode look at the power LED on the back of the tray. If it is fast flashing Amber then it is in this mode. Also if it is in diagnostic mode you will be able to ping the LOD IP which is 10.0.0.2. If the LOD is in diagnostic mode you only need to power cycle the drive tray in order to reset this condition. The LOD gets set into this mode by pressing and holding the Power On button for the drive tray at the back of the library. In order to power on the drive tray do a quick push of this Power On button.

Check the drive Configuration>Network  item "SSH FIPS mode".

If this feature is ON, then the SSH and VOP level must be at a compatible level.
If the SSH is not at a compatible level some linux OS will report an error "no hostkey".

VOP version 2.2 is required for "SSH FIPS mode".

You will see message "no hostkey alg " when trying to SSH in to the drive if this is set and you have a downrev VOP below version 2.2.

The SSH client must support key algorithm "ecdsa-sha2-nist256" with "SSH FIPS mode".
The default config setting when a drive is shipped is "SSH FIPS mode OFF".

The Ethernet activity LED (LINK/ACT) should still be functional for either problem described above.
You should be able to ping the drive at 10.0.0.1 even if SSH FIPS mode is set, but you cannot ping the drive at 10.0.0.1 if the tray maintenance mode is set.
You can ping the LOD card inside the tray at 10.0.0.2 if the maintenance mode is set.
