Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

After a power supply was replaced in an M4000, the system failed to come up.

XSCF> poweron -a
DomainIDs to power on:00
Continue? [y|n] :y
00 :Not powering on :Poweron canceled due to missing component.

XSCF> showboards -a
XSB  DID(LSB) Assignment  Pwr  Conn Conf Test    Fault
---- -------- ----------- ---- ---- ---- ------- --------
00-0 00(00)   Assigned    n    n    n    Unknown Faulted

Changes

Although the replacefru command was not used to replace the power supply, this was corrected and the system still wouldn't come up after a power cycle.

No failures were noted in the showstatus, however, many components were in a deconfigured state, and no components were missing in showhardconf.

We compared the problemmatic showhardconf to that of a known good lab system to verify.

Cause

 Note the "Dual" status for the Power_Supply_System variable.

SPARC Enterprise M4000;
   + Serial:BEFXXXXXX; Operator_Panel_Switch:Locked;
   + Power_Supply_System:Dual; SCF-ID:XSCF#0;

Dual power cannot be used on the M4000 using 100 Volts incoming power.

Per the setdualpowerfeed manpage:

Note -    The ability to enable and disable dual power feed is
            available  on  M3000/M4000/M5000  servers only. How-
            ever, dual power feed mode cannot be used with  100V
            power  on  M4000/M5000  servers.

This state should be "Single" for M4000/M5000 using 100 Volts incoming power.

SPARC Enterprise M4000;
    + Serial:BEFXXXXXXX; Operator_Panel_Switch:Locked;
    + Power_Supply_System:Single; SCF-ID:XSCF#0;

Solution

 Use the setdualpowerfeed command to disable the "Dual" option.

XSCF> setdualpowerfeed -s disable

Dual power feed will be disabled the next time the platform is powered on.

You will need to perfrom a power cycle after running the command and verify the problem is resolved.

Once the system is powered back on:

1. Run a showstatus from the XSCF, it  should show no errors:

XSCF> showstatus
No failures found in System Initialization.

2. Power on the domain(s):

XSCF> poweron -a
DomainIDs to power on:00
Continue? [y|n] :y
