Oracle FS1-2 Flash Storage System - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

After deleting Auto-Tier LUNs the user may not see an increase in free space for a Storage Domain seen from the GUI.

Cause

When deleting Auto-Tier LUNs space may not be freed automatically by the FS1-2 as the space will be available for other Auto-Tier LUNs to use in the Storage Domain.

Solution

Within a Storage Tier, if the total space allocated for Auto-Tier LUNs is at 20% utilization or less, then the Storage Domain will do an automatic compaction to free some of the space. If the total space allocated for Auto-Tier LUNs within a storage tier is greater than 20% utilization, then a manual Storage Domain compaction can be forced to free space.

To force a manual storage domain compaction:

  1. Log into the FS1-2 GUI and navigate to the "System" tab.
  2. In the navigation tree, click "Storage Domains".
  3. On the main page select the appropriate Storage Domain.
  4. Either right mouse click or from the Menu bar, select "Actions" and then select "Compact Storage Domain".
  5. In the "Tasks" window there will be a PerfromDefragmentation background process running, once the process reaches 100% or disappears check the increase in available free space.
