Applies to:

Oracle FS1-2 Flash Storage System - Version 6.1 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

For FS Systems running versions 6.1.x , in some instances the event notification to recipient email address is not sent.

Cause

In the current design of alert management, the FS System is configured by default to wait 5 minutes to send the next alert. If a high severity alert occurs within 5 minutes of a previous alert notification, then the user may not be notified.

For example:

  • Creating and then removing an administrator account -- only the email describing account creation was sent. No removal notification was sent since removal was done within 5 minutes of the first event.

  • Creating and then removing a LUN -- only the email describing LUN creation was sent. No removal notification was sent since the LUN was deleted within 5 minutes of the first event.

Email Flood Prevention identifies the time interval in which the system is permitted to send subsequent emails when an event occurs on the Oracle FS System. The smaller the number, the more frequently the system sends event notification emails. The default time is 300 seconds (5 minutes).

Solution

The fix is now available with Version 6.2.0 and above.

For Systems running 6.1.x , follow the work around below to change the Email Flood Prevention interval in the GUI.

1. Navigate to System tab > Global Settings > Networking.
2. Click Actions in the menu bar, or right-click in the Networking window on the right side of the screen.
3. Click Modify > Notification tab > Enable Email Notifications.
4. Change the Email Flood Prevention interval to 1 to 5 seconds as desired.

Setting lower values for the Email Flood Prevention interval will make the FS1-2 System send emails for all the event notifications configured. This would result in users getting multiple emails from the FS1-2 system.
