Applies to:

Oracle FS1-2 Flash Storage System - Version 6.1.0 and later
Pillar Axiom Replication Engine (MaxRep) - Version 3.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

MaxRep Replication Engine Register Oracle Storage task may fail or become stuck in a pending state if the FS1 is running with code below version 6.1.9.

Cause

The Maxrep Engine uses special scripts to perform registration.  The scripts on the Maxrep Engine are designed to use a special 'replication' user and password to connect to the FS1 and execute tasks. The replication account on the FS1 system is used to perform replication functions, such as creating write splits on the LUNs and map LUNs for replication.

The registration task or FS1 related tasks will fail if the system administrator updated the 'replication' account password on the FS1 for any reason before 6.1.9.

Solution

The 'replication' user password should not be changed if FS1 code release below 6.1.9.

The problem has been resolved with 6.1.9 and later releases.

If 'replication' user password had been changed, it is necessary to perform FS1 code upgrade to 6.1.9 or later releases to complete registration. Then re-register storage on Maxrep Engine with new password.

The default password for the 'replication' user is "TwinPeaks". The FS1 will not allow updating the password to default via account maintenance steps in the GUI due to the security rules implemented.

Engineering completed tests on FS1 code release 6.2.0. Registration with updated password for 'replication' user worked on MaxRep Engine without problem.

Tests on 6.1.9 have been completed without any problem. Registration with updated password for 'replication' user worked on MaxRep Engine without problem.
