Applies to:

SPARC T5-2 - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]
Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit)

Symptoms

Repeatedly reported picld (PICL snmpplugin) snmp ds resets

Apr 26 07:32:29 XXXXX picld[611]: [ID 815711 daemon.warning] PICL snmpplugin: snmp ds reset happened, rebuilding tree
Apr 26 07:34:59 XXXXX last message repeated 1 time
Apr 26 07:37:29 XXXXX picld[611]: [ID 815711 daemon.warning] PICL snmpplugin: snmp ds reset happened, rebuilding tree

Cause

There are communication issues between the service processor (sp) and platform information and control library daemon (picld), the picld gets information from the sp and when the communication is disrupted/interrupted, multiple issues can occur, just as describe above.

Solution

Advise is to perform:

- sp
  - reset sp
    -> reset /SP
  - wait until sp is operational
and for more information look also at
  - How to reset the SP on a T3-x and T4-x (Doc ID 1541150.1)
- host
  - kill old/previous prtdiag processes
    - if the processes are unkillable or turning in a defunct/zombie process, advice is to reboot the system
  - cleanup device tree
    # devfsadm -Cv
  - restart picld
    # modinfo | grep ds_snmp
    # svcadm disable picl
    # modunload -i <id of ds_snmp>
    # modinfo | grep ds_snmp
    # svcadm enable picl
    # modinfo | grep ds_snmp
  - wait 5-10 minutes, so that picld can rebuild/gather all environmental data
and for more information look also at
  - How to perform basic SMF administration in Solaris 10 (Doc ID 1009397.1)
  - PICLD Overview and Fixes To Common Bugs (Doc ID 1004591.1)
  - prtdiag fails with errors "Prtdiag failed! Property not found" (Doc ID 1486642.1)

and check the status:

- host
  # tail -f /var/adm/messages
  # prtdiag -v
  # prtpicl -v

and by any issue, advise is to ac power-cycle the system:

- Performing an AC power cycle on the T3/T4/T5/T7 Servers (Doc ID 1571054.1)

and if there is still an issue, advise is to open a service request by oracle support and collect the following data:

- explorer output
  - Oracle Services Tools Bundle (STB) - Explorer, SNEEP, LWACT, RDA (Doc ID 1153444.1)
  - Oracle Explorer Data Collector: Modules, Module Groups, Module Aliases Summary (Doc ID 1536532.1)
- ilom snapshot
  - Collecting snapshot on ILOM 3.x and later platforms (Doc ID 1020204.1)
  - Collecting snapshot via the GUI on ILOM 3.x and later platforms (Doc ID 1553399.1)
  - Collect ILOM snapshot on T3-x and T4-x systems without an active network management connection (Doc ID 1518044.1)
  - Simple instructions to collect ILOM snapshot on T3-x, T4-x, T5-x, & T7-x systems (Doc ID 2077387.1)
