Solution Type Problem Resolution Sure Solution 2003160.1 : Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance: NFS client 'showmount' command returns "... rpc mount export: RPC: Timed out"
In this Document
Created from <SR 3-9935952241> Applies to:Sun ZFS Storage 7420 - Version All Versions and laterSun ZFS Storage 7320 - Version All Versions and later Sun ZFS Storage 7120 - Version All Versions and later Oracle ZFS Storage ZS3-4 - Version All Versions and later Oracle ZFS Storage ZS3-2 - Version All Versions and later 7000 Appliance OS (Fishworks) SymptomsThe NFS client servers are not able to create any volumes on the guest vServers. The program is failing with an error message: 'Unable to access file system at 192.xxx.xxx.xxx: rpc mount export: RPC: Timed out'.
[root@ 01 ~]# showmount -e 192..x.x.x
rpc mount export: RPC: Timed out [root@a 01 ~]# showmount -e 10.x.x.x rpc mount export: RPC: Timed out
Changes
CauseIn this example, we do not see any RPC timeout errors logged on the NAS Appliance.
SolutionTests run with dig -x commands show that the DNS servers of the customer are slow to respond to requests. The DNS servers did not have any reverse lookup data for the IP addresses that the customer was using.
Once the 'reverse lookup' DNS SRV records were added, the RPC time out messages disappeared and the customer's applications (in this case, Exadata) work without errors.
