Symptoms

Customer installed SMU Version 1.2.  on Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance ZS3-2 was installed with 2013.1.2.2.

Before the release of SMU 1.2, it was not possible to use SMU to clone a distributed database between two nodes of the same clustered ZFS Storage Appliance.

SMU Version 1.2 added the possibility to distribute the database across both heads.

When the customer tried to create a SMU backup against the 2nd head, he received an error:

"the number of remote shares is greater than the number of shares to backup"

Changes

Customer has an SMU server with 2 SMU host account configured and 2 storage account. Every storage account was located on different site. After upgrade to latest version , customer tried to configure perform SMU backup but it failed with the previous error.

Creating backup failed
@ --- TASK FAILED ---
@ The number of remote shares is greater than the number of shares to backup.

If we connect to ZFS2, we realized that the resolved IP address does not match the address configured on the appliance.

DNS resolution is not working

Solution

Modify local /etc/host on the SMU client to point to the correct appliance and then recreate the SMU account configuration.
