Symptoms

Contiguous Correction Events for 9x40 Tape Drives are any perm errors in the FSC1 field with the following FSC ranges:
3D9x
3DAx
3DBx
3DCx
3DDx
3DEx

Note - the x in the last FSC position is the track number that is failing.

Cause

Degraded track on tape media or drive head.

Solution

Contiguous Correction Events for 9x40 Tape Drives are any perm errors in the FSC1 field with the following FSC ranges:
3D9x
3DAx
3DBx
3DCx
3DDx
3DEx

When Contiguous Correction Events are found in the event log do the following:
1) Verify this is for a perm error. (check the severity field)
2) Check if there is evidence that the drive is writing poorly. Perms on other tapes, rules for stats that trigger a drive condition, Contiguous Correction FSCs on other tapes. If there is evidence that the drive is writing poorly do the following:
  a) Review all of the data. If there is good evidence that the drive is performing poorly - replace it.

If there is not enough evidence to say that the drive is performing poorly - monitor the drive.
